1st Class Pilot Car Services is looking for responsible and safety-minded Pilot Car Drivers to escort oversize or overweight loads and ensure safe and efficient transportation.
You’ll be the eyes and ears on the road, helping truck drivers navigate routes safely, communicating road conditions, and maintaining compliance with state and federal escort regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Escort oversize and overweight loads using a certified pilot/escort vehicle.
Maintain constant communication with truck drivers and other escorts via CB radio or phone.
Monitor road and traffic conditions to ensure safe passage of the convoy.
Warn oncoming traffic of approaching oversize loads and alert the driver to hazards or obstacles.
Follow all state and federal escort regulations and company safety procedures.
Conduct pre-trip inspections of your vehicle and required equipment (flags, signs, lights, height pole, etc.)
Accurately complete trip logs, route reports, and inspection documentation.
Represent the company professionally and courteously at all times.
Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license with a verifiable driving record.
Certified Pilot Car Operator license certification
Knowledge of state escort laws and regulations.
Experience escorting wide/oversize loads preferred (training available for the right candidate).
Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently.
Strong communication and situational awareness skills.
Working cell phone
Ability to travel for extended periods and work flexible hours, including weekends.
Equipment Requirements:
Reliable vehicle capable of meeting state pilot car requirements (e.g., signage, lights, CB radio, safety flags, height pole, etc.)
Proof of insurance and registration.
