Maintain a knowledge base regarding sedation/analgesic and anesthetic agents and techniques, physiologic and physiological response to the recovering patient

Assess, plan, intervention for and evaluate the physical and physiological response to analgesia; able to plan for the risks and the interventions for those risks associated with the administration of sedation, analgesia, and anesthetic agents

Assesses patient’s health and continuously monitors; detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs

Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol

Collaborates with other care staff to assure smooth transition for patient throughout the facility using proper hand off techniques

Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures

Provides patient and family education

Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms

Orient and achieve competency from all areas of the Perioperative Department

Maintains order, stock, and cleanliness of all areas of the department

Practices safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and regulations, and adheres to safety policies

Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines, policies, and procedures

QualificationsRequired Education

Associate’s Degree in Nursing

Required Licensure and Certifications

RN:ND

ACLS

BLS-CPR

PALS

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum of two (2) years RN experience

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong oral communications skills

Ability to deal with conflict and difficult people

Strong critical thinking skills

Knowledge of all regulatory agencies and their standards and processes

Ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred Education and/or Experience

PACU RN experience preferred
