The Safety Manager develops, monitors and implements Jefferson#39;s health and safety policies; ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies; and is responsible for the reduction and prevention of safety hazards and accidents. This role ensures the health and safety of all Jefferson staff and personnel as well as patients, students and visitors.

Responsibilities

Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson

Responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of environmental health and safety policies and programs in compliance with The Joint Commission, DOH amp; CARF. Reviews and maintains all pertinent documentation for regulatory safety compliance. Responsible for ILSM amp; ICRA requirements as necessary.

Coordinates the Hazardous Waste program, overseeing, providing training and enforcing proper management of hazardous waste and employee safety

Identifies, evaluates and coordinates the correction of all workplace hazardous and safety conditions. Communicates safety issues to the Safety Committee and Administration.

Investigates and documents employee accidents and safety complaints, including theft. Collects, develops and maintains all accident and safety reports. Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to hospital leadership.

Assists with Fire Safety, Life Safety and Emergency Management training, testing and inspections. Conducts Life Safety, Emergency Management and evacuation drills to ensure proper equipment function and safety staff preparedness.

Manages safety staff in all aspects of personnel management, including scheduling, payroll, providing regular performance feedback and delivering annual performance appraisals.

Manages or assists other campus safety related needs as they arise, including serving on the Emergency Response Team, partnering with Risk Management and/or Public Safety/Security, etc.

Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of chemical toxicity, principles of chemical storage, use and disposal. Knowledge of the selection and use of Personal Protective Equipment. Knowledge of Life Safety, Environment of Care, Emergency Preparedness, IRCA amp; PICRA requirements.

Required Experience, Education, Certifications, Licenses

Minimum of five yearsrsquo; experience in a healthcare institution, university, public or private organization specializing in safety. OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER (within 90 days of hire). Bachelor of Science in environmental safety/protection, occupational safety, related discipline; work experience in healthcare safety may be substituted for the education requirement.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jeffersonrsquo;s clinical entities or at the University.
