The contract position must have at least 3 to 5 years of hands on experience in building inflatable river rafts including stretching, marking and cutting the material, joining with glue, repairing the rafts and adding accessories such as inflation/deflation valves, handles, D-rings and lifelines. Experience with working on P&F Orca Fabric (typically used on rafts) is a plus.
The position joins the material by glueing and bonding or uses other approved techniques to join the fabric and attach accessories at the required location as shown on engineering drawings and other company standards. The position has to follow quality standards and work to meet project delivery dates.
This position follows the directions, work instructions and reports his or her work to the Chief Engineer. The applicant should be punctual, hard working and self-driven.
Job Functions
Understands mixing and application process for glue, processes for bonding attachments, accessories, and chafe and fabric splicing techniques.
Mixes and applies glue.
Applies adhesive to surface of material by brushing, and or rolling.
Bonds glued materials together manually to air holding tubes. Presses material with hand roller, or hand held tools. Uses hot air gun to heat material and glue if required to activate glue.
Uses heavy duty scissors to trim fabric to fit.
Performs assembly of pre-glued materials per the drawings.
Cleans finished products. Assists in packaging finished products.
Monitors quality of build through completion of general quality control checklists
Performs all safety checks and uses required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including respirator/ mask as required
