The Department of Human Services, Polk Center is looking for a Utility Plant Helper to join their stay-behind maintenance team. In this role, you will assist in operating boilers and related equipment, ensuring continued operations even after the facility closes. DESCRIPTION OF WORKThroughout your assigned shift, your responsibilities will include operating three coal-fired boilers, generating around 175,000,000 pounds of steam at 180 pounds per square inch. Using a computer system alongside manual control techniques, you will monitor fire-beds for ash density, depth, and consistency, making necessary adjustments to optimize the fuel-air ratio and coal consumption. This position aims to enhance operational efficiency at the plant. Your role will involve aiding in adjustments of equipment such as boilers, fans, stokers, compressors, and feed water pumps. This includes closely monitoring all meters and gauges. These efforts are crucial for ensuring safe operations, prolonging life expectancy of equipment, enhancing cost efficiency of operations, and maintaining continuity of service at our facility. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment.
Work hours are 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM, 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM, and 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM, with a paid lunch.
Work days include weekends, holidays, patterns, and variable shifts.
Overtime and travel as needed.
May change based on operational needs.
