Join a team that has the environment down to a science.Your OpportunityStantec’s gulf coast environmental services group is currently seeking an Environmental Technician to assist in the development, execution, and delivery of environmental studies for a variety of resource, infrastructure and development projects. This position will be based out of any of our Texas locations and work will be focused in the Midland and/or Odessa, TX area.As an Environmental Technician, you will provide environmental assessments, subsurface investigations, remediation, and monitoring projects; sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater; data interpretation/evaluation and deliverable preparation for our clients in the oil and gas, pipeline, manufacturing, federal, industrial, water resources, and other business sectors. The selected candidate will assist our team of environmental professionals on environmental assessments/monitoring, remediation, permitting, impact analysis, and various environmental investigations, studies, and surveys in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and across the gulf coast.You will work in a highly dynamic team environment with scientists, geologist, biologists, engineers, water resource specialists, NEPA specialists, environmental planners, and regulatory experts. This position will include opportunities for both field and office work; it may also involve extensive travel and several days in the field and away from home.Your Key Responsibilities

Support and conduct site assessments (Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA).

Conduct field work including various multimedia sampling (surface water, sediment, groundwater, soil gas, air, etc.) and drilling, utility, and construction oversight/supervision on a variety of project types (i.e., oil and gas, manufacturing, etc.).

Installation of soil borings and groundwater monitoring and remedial wells using universal soil classification logging standards.

Conduct aquifer testing, water level measurements, and elevation surveying.

Support and conduct indoor and outdoor air quality assessments.

Conducting assessments for hazardous materials including (but not limited to) asbestos, mold, lead, PCBs and mercury.

Performing operation and maintenance on various remedial systems.

Collecting samples for accurate logging on chain of custody documents and submission to independent laboratories for analysis.

Assisting with the operation and calibration of various field testing equipment.

Technical report support including data entry/validation, figure preparation, and QA/QC.

Writing technical reports that summarize methods, results, conclusions and recommendations

Actively participate in maintaining Stantec's safety culture

Evening and weekend work may be required

Travel will be required, up to 75% within the U.S.

Work will be conducted under the supervision of a project manager.

Additional duties may be assigned and include, but not limited to, handling day to day tasks such as:

Data management, writing and preparation of reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda,

Preparing cost estimates,

Conducting project-related research (historical data, regulations, etc.),

Preparing periodic status/program reports

QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials

Working knowledge of field sampling techniques, equipment maintenance or repair, or other activities. Must have the willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work

Experience/knowledge of hazardous materials as emergency response are desirable.

Experience conducting work under the regulatory authority of the TCEQ’s Texas Risk Reduction Program and the Railroad Commission of Texas; Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality; Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality; and Oklahoma Corporation Commission a plus.

GIS experience a plus.

Experience with operation and maintenance of various active remediation systems/technologies a plus.

Conscientious, organized, and disciplined.

Candidate must be detail-oriented, have exceptional field note-taking skills, have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills (including MS Office), basic understanding of technical writing skills, combined with the ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic, challenging and fast paced environment.

Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required. This position works as part of a larger natural resources team and will likely require support to multiple Stantec offices.

Candidate must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills, combined with the ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic, challenging and fast paced environment.

Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, management, and vendors to successfully meet shifting needs.

Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).

Knowledge of environmental compliance and permitting regulations pertaining to the USACE, USFWS, and state regulatory agencies a plus.

Experience conducting wetland delineations and T&E habitat characterization a plus.

40hr OSHA HAZWOPER Training required.

Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

Prior to employment this position will require the successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Willingness to travel frequently and conduct field work in potentially remote areas for extended periods including overnight travel is expected for this position. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
