Assistant Controller

Description Robert Half has partnered with a growing financial services organization to find their next Assistant Controller, based in Irving, Texas. The Assistant Controller will play a crucial role in leading the corporate accounting team, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and internal accounting policies, and interacting with various levels of the organization and external auditors.Responsibilities: Oversee accounting and reporting functions, general ledger reconciliation, and the development of accounting policies. Manage the accurate and timely execution of month-end close accounting functions, including the preparation of financial statements and related analytics. Research and explain fluctuations in balance sheet accounts and income statements. Support the development of policies and provide advice on accounting and internal control issues, reporting needs, and policy review and changes. Identify and lead initiatives for process improvement, system implementations, and system maintenance. Drive accounting-related initiatives across the organization in cooperation with business leaders, vendors, and consultants. Actively contribute to the development and mentorship of staff for succession planning and career growth. Assist in the adoption of new accounting standards including, but not limited to, researching standards, preparing written accounting policies for the company, and preparing new disclosures. Oversee and/or assist with external audits (banking compliance and financial). Assist with related special projects as required. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.Requirements Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the financial services industry. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required. Proven experience in Public Accounting and Public Accounting Audit is necessary. Prior experience in a Big 4 Accounting Firm is a plus. Proficiency in Oracle is essential. Must have experience in Full Cycle Accounting. Experience in Direct Supervision is a key requirement. Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards in financial services is expected. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are required. Ability to work independently and as part of a team is necessary. Must have a high level of integrity, accountability, and a strong work ethic. Familiarity with financial regulations and standards is a must. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is required. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments, and manage ambiguity. Strong organizational and time management skills are essential. Must be detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines. A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is expected.
