Senior Electrical Engineer – Heart Failure – Burlington, MAThe OpportunityThis position works out of our Burlington, MA location in the H eart Failure (HF) Division.Leading an active lifestyle is important to the many people we serve. We focus on innovative technologies that can improve the way doctors treat people with heart failure (HF).As Senior Electrical Engineer , you are an experienced, high caliber Electrical Engineer to play a key role in Abbott’s Heart Failure/Mechanical Circulatory Support (HF/MCS) R&D organization. In this position, you will be a member of the Electrical Engineering R&D team and be primarily responsible for leading sustaining activities including design updates, component evaluation/qualifications, and CAPA/root cause investigations. Secondarily, you will also lead some aspects of new product development/qualification for the next generation Left Ventricular-Assist devices. The MCS division of Abbott is known for its HeartMate suite of Ventricular-Assist systems that continue to improve the lives of tens of thousands of patients suffering from heart failure.The selected candidate will apply electrical engineering knowledge to lead sustaining engineering activities, manage EMC and Basic Safety testing, lead design reviews, develop/execute electrical test protocols, write test reports, develop test fixtures/automation, and support other general design and sustaining activities.This position will design and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures in order to meet daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality.What You’ll Work On
Leads sustaining electrical engineering activities.
Develops V&V test protocols, test execution, and writes test reports.
Develops test methods, test fixtures, automation SW as needed.
Supports execution and management of longlists for external testing as needed.
Participates/contributes in technical design reviews on electrical designs.
Ensures that program objectives are determined and met, and resources are effectively coordinated.
Optimizes electrical circuits through characterization, modeling, data analysis and statistics.
Conducts root cause analysis for high priority design issues.
Contributes to external technical committees (IEC, ISO, EN, etc.) as a representative of Abbott.
Position will require local travel to support external testing.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field plus 5+ years of experience. OR master’s degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field plus 3+ years of experience.
Minimum 3+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in electrical design and qualification.
Experience with Medical Device development or other regulated industry (e.g., defense, automotive, etc.)
Demonstrated expert knowledge of sound design principles and practices.
Good proficiency with general lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, programmable loads).
Experience working with cross-functional teams and takes initiatives to ensure successful outcomes.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field
Understanding of good documentation practices
Experience with battery technologies and solutions
Project Management skills
At least one year of hands-on analog & digital circuit design experience for embedded systems
