Description We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Grants and Contracts Accountant to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the agency’s financial management by overseeing grant and contract accounting functions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and agency-specific regulations, and providing accurate financial reporting for various funding sources.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in governmental accounting, particularly in the areas of grants and contracts, and the ability to navigate complex compliance requirements. Grant and Contract Accounting:
Administer and manage the accounting for grants, contracts, and other funding sources, ensuring accurate financial reporting and reconciliation.
Monitor expenses to ensure compliance with budgetary constraints, regulations, and restrictions.
Track all receipts, payments, and expenditures related to grants and contracts.
Review and verify invoices for compliance with contract terms and government guidelines.
Compliance and Reporting:
Prepare and submit timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and funding entities.
Ensure compliance with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
Assist with audits and respond to audit inquiries related to grants and contracts.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist program managers with budget preparation and financial projections for grant-funded projects and contracts.
Provide regular updates on grant and contract financial status, highlighting any discrepancies or areas of concern.
Reconcile grant-related accounts and resolve any discrepancies.
Training and Support:
Provide guidance and training to staff on grant and contract financial management policies and procedures.
Advise internal teams on accounting best practices and compliance standards for grant and contract management.
Recordkeeping and Documentation:
Maintain accurate and complete records of grant and contract financial transactions.
Ensure all documentation is properly filed and readily accessible for audits, reviews, and reporting.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
At least 3-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably with a focus on government grants, contracts, or nonprofit accounting.
Familiarity with federal, state, and local grant regulations and compliance requirements, such as OMB Circulars and Uniform Guidance.
Previous experience working with government contracts and grants management software (e.g., Deltek, PeopleSoft, or similar systems) is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including fund accounting and governmental accounting standards.
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare detailed reports.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Certifications:
CPA or CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manager) preferred, but not required.
