LOCATION: Main Campus

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

APPROVED BY: Executive Director

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Demonstrate Christ-like behavior and attitude in all job duties and responsibilities. Responsible for the overall cooking for the residents, employees, and guests of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, fryers, grills, steamers, and broilers.

Bake, grill, steam, and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods

Prepare and cook foods of all types, regularly of for residents and guests

Basic knowledge of nutritional values and healthier cooking styles.

Plan and develop recipes and menus, considering such factors as seasonal availability, donation of ingredients and the likely number of individuals served.

Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes

Handle and store ingredients and food

Maintain food safety and sanitation standards

Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils

Monitor inventory levels

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

Orienting and training volunteers and program participants assigned to the kitchen; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are the minimum qualifications that an individual needs to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based on the department size and/or geographic location.

Knowledge:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); five years experience in a related field. Certification from culinary school preferred 2 years as a cook in a restaurant or institution instead of education accepted. Excellent planning, organizing, communication, and supervisory skills.

Knowledge of safety procedures, including safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept and to which food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness

Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating on complex dishes

Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of other people, such as volunteers, program participants, management, and sometimes donors

Calm demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment

Accountability for the dishes they prepare measuring up to the expectations of management and customers alike

Comprehension and organization to follow direct orders and recipes and to correctly prepare dishes to the standards of the restaurant

Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, such as knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting, and dicing

Ability to stand in one place for hours at a time, handle extreme heat, and work shifts

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to see, hear, speak, and write clearly to communicate with employees and/or other customers; manual dexterity is required for occasional reaching and lifting of small objects, and operating office equipment.

The ability to work on your feet for most of the day and lift 30 pounds at a time
