[FEU].The Engineer works within Energy Delivery Transmission Operations Support (EDTOS) Power Network Analysis (PNA) group. EDTOS groups support the 24/7 operations of FirstEnergy’s (FE’s) three Transmission System Control Centers (SCCs) in Akron, OH and Fairmont, WV. The SCCs provide oversight of FE’s transmission grid through monitoring, optimization, and control. PNA provides monitoring, maintenance, and improvement of the Energy Management System (EMS) Network applications for SCC end-users. Positions within PNA are dynamic and execute a wide diversity of work over a spectrum of scopes. Candidates filling this position will support a variety of initiatives and perform interactions with peers and leadership.Responsibilities include:
Maintain, enhance, and accurately resolve real-time issues of the Network applications within the real-time Energy Management System (EMS).
Review and update SCADA equipment capabilities and ICCP telemetry.
Perform and aid in performing studies relating to the operation of FE Transmission system.
Support documentation and performance tasks in collaboration with Transmission Planning and Protection in preparation of seasonal assessment studies and Network model comparisons.
Coordinate data exchanges and signoffs for new equipment energizations such as limit updates and topology changes.
Work with External personnel to coordinate joint Network model updates.
Work closely with internal staff to support compliance issues.
Prepare technical reports, summaries, and develop or update training presentations.
Demonstrate a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
Support real-time Operations during off-hours as part of callout rotation.
Actively seek formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand departmental processes and procedures.
Qualifications include:
Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License (2) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
Minimum of two (2) years of applicable electric industry experience or equivalent.
Experience in analyzing complex problems and demonstrating good judgment in decision making.
Demonstrated experience in accomplishing responsibilities in a timely manner through maximizing organizational resources and employing logical approaches.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with multiple departments.
Effective written and oral communication skills and conduct oneself in a professional manner.
Proficient PC skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams) are required with core understanding of applicable technical products and/or services.
Knowledge of the electric transmission system, reliability standards, and regional transmission organizations is beneficial.
Background knowledge of NERC and RFC standards and policies of the electric utility industry preferred.
Experience and knowledge of programming in Perl and/or Visual Basics preferred.
Familiarity with any or all applications – GE/Alstom Energy Management System (EMS), Transmission Adequacy & Reliability Assessment (TARA), Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA), Transmission Line Loadability (TLL), System Operations Requests (SOR), PI DataLink, PERL, Primavera Unifier, Microsoft PowerBI
