Our Assistant Chef must be a self-starter who is also friendly and teamwork oriented. It is important that our employees get along with both guests and staff. We need an individual who is healthy and highly dependable. The Assistant Chef has a lot of guest exposure. Therefore, this position calls for a hard-working individual who is professional and presentable.
We are looking for someone who has a sound background in the food service industry with experience in baking breads and desserts, and some experience in gourmet/fine dining. Formal training at a culinary school is preferred, but not necessarily required.
Responsibilities:
Assist chef with guest/crew breakfast and lunch preparation
Appetizer preparation
Assist with dinner and dessert preparation and presentation
Some baking of bread/rolls/cookies
Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen/food storage areas
Some supervision of one kitchen assistant/dishwasher
Ability to run the kitchen solo on the head chef’s day off (once a week)
Socializing with guests
Qualifications & Requirements:
Hard working and physically fit with the energy to work long hours 6 days per week
Culinary experience in restaurants or lodges
Made from scratch baking and dessert making skills
Must be able to work with dietary needs/requests of our guests
Ability to interact and work well with others
Cooperative and open to suggestion
Good leadership and training skills
Creative and willing to offer suggestions
Must be positive, happy and enjoy their line of work
An appreciation for the outdoors and the experience remote Alaska offers
Strong customer service skills including interacting with people, sharing stories, etc.
Ability to conduct kitchen operations in an efficient and professional manner
Ability to assist with a variety of kitchen tasks to minimize the head chef’s workload and increase efficiency
