Sole practitioner is seeking a part-time legal assistant to help with administrative work 20 hours a week.
This job is a great way to break into the legal field and get hands-on experience with the criminal justice system at an entry level.
Duties include:
- Keeping a calendar with new appointments and court dates.
- Writing sentencing memos along with other legal documents using templates.
- Keeping appointments and answering phone calls throughout the day.
- Making appointments with the Judge's clerks/interpreters.
- Billing cases upon completion for CJA E-Voucher along with private legal insurance companies.
In addition to these responsibilities, you will also help manage properties, such as landlord/tenant document management.
The ideal candidate would have the following skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Pay high attention to details.
- Excellent PC skills including proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to work under pressure and to handle multiple tasks.
- Enjoys taking the initiative.
- Able to meet firm deadlines with federal sentencing documents.
- Being Bilingual (English & Spanish) is very helpful. Often our clients and especially their families are Spanish-speakers. You will need to aid the attorney with interpretation and translation of documents.
This office will provide the training necessary to navigate the criminal justice system, providing templates for written work and hands-on assistance from an experienced attorney. Previous legal assistants have moved on to law school with the experience from this position.
