Matter of Trust, a leading environmental organization, is seeking an enthusiastic and visionary Lead for our Eco-Academy Program for youth, volunteers, and researchers to provide all ages with hands-on planet-friendly opportunities. We are designing and implementing engaging programs that blend hands-on learning, biomimicry life principles, permaculture practices, and ecological stewardship. The ideal candidate will manage activities such as field trips, exhibits, open houses, lesson planning, virtual tours, and student-led research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinating Volunteers, Interns, and Apprentices

Interviewing potential candidates

Overseeing student-led projects in our diverse programs

Collect progress updates for impact reports to Management.

Leading Educational Field Trips

Coordinate and schedule field trip requests to our ecological centers

Host field trips for school groups ages 5-18, sometimes adult groups

Training will be offered for leading the field trips

Collect feedback and continually improve field trip material

Managing Educational Open Houses

Set up themed week-long open houses at our ecological centers with a gift shop and educational exhibits and garden.

Coordinate docents (volunteers and staff) to host open houses

Continually improve open house exhibits

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Proven experience in youth programming, environmental education, or outdoor education.

Knowledge and Expertise:

Familiarity with creating educational content for various age groups.

Strong understanding of sustainability concepts, biomimicry principles, and permaculture.

Leadership and Teaching Skills:

Ability to lead groups of students in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Experience developing lesson plans and managing educational programs.

Communication and Technical Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with students, parents, and teachers, etc

Proficiency in using digital tools for communication, progress reports, exhibit creation.

Personal Attributes:

Passionate about environmental conservation and youth education.

Creative, resourceful, and enthusiastic about inspiring the next generation of eco-leaders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of social media video production or virtual learning tools.

Familiarity with local ecosystems, flora, and fauna.

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Ecology, Education, or a related field preferred.

Work Conditions:

Part-time hybrid position

20 hours/week maximum

$23-25 per hour

May require occasional weekend availability for events.
