This position assists the Deputy General Counsel in providing leadership and legal expertise to support the Department’s compliance with state and federal laws.Staff Attorney Supervisor Responsibilities

Supervise and manage a team of attorneys including the hiring and evaluation of the performance of assigned staff.

Assist the Deputy General Counsel in coordinating and managing legal work throughout the Department.

Conduct legal research, writing and analysis, and provide legal advice to the Department on a variety of complex legal issues.

Coordinate and consult with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office regarding the Department’s legal disputes and litigation.

Manage the development of and/or provide legal training on a variety of topics to Department staff.

Assume the duties of the Deputy General Counsel in case of absence.

Writing SampleIndividuals who are selected for interview may be requested to submit a writing sample.Minimum QualificationsTo receive credit for your education and experience, your resume should clearly describe how you meet each minimum and/or preferred qualification listed, including dates of employment.Four (4) years of legal experience as a practicing attorney which must include conducting legal research, writing, and analysis. Judicial clerkship experience will count towards this criteria.Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.Licensed to practice law in Minnesota and current with continuing legal education requirements.Experience providing legal advice to senior management or executives.Demonstrated leadership experience gained through lead work and/or supervision of professional staff and/or handling complex legal projects.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas of law related to the position:

Rulemaking under the Minnesota Administrative Procedures Act and/or other administrative processes

Minnesota’s Family and Medical Benefit Insurance program

State and/or federal Broadband laws and regulations

Employment law

Government grants/contracts/acquisitions

Civil litigation

The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and/or other privacy laws
