Works under general supervision with evaluation based on overall results obtained.Requisition ID:37260BRTravel Required:Up to 25%Major/Essential Functions:Working under the under the direct supervision of the Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), the Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services will support the assets-based philosophy of the program by providing holistic advising, planning, administering, and evaluating program activities that result in the persistence and graduation of TRIO SSS participants. The Assistant Director is responsible for advising program participants regarding course selection, degree planning, internships, graduate school, career planning, as well as providing other academic guidance. As an Assistant Director, this role will plan, implement, and present various academic support workshops and field experiences including, but not limited to: financial literacy, study skills, goal setting, graduation planning, and career exploration. The position will also maintain accurate and complete student records according to relevant laws and policies, aiding with monthly, quarterly, and yearly leadership reports required by the department, division, and federal agency. The Assistant Director will supervise the student advisory board and assist the Director with assigning tasks and providing oversight to the tutors/student assistants for the program.

Lead, manage and advise a case load of student advisees for continuous and ongoing advising to TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) participants (first-generation students, students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, and students with disabilities) regarding college course completion, study abroad opportunities, financial literacy, financial aid, career exploration, graduate school enrollment, and other academic, social, personal, and cultural support.

Plan, organize, and implement student-centered programming and events related to financial literacy, career planning and exploration, goal setting, time management, self-advocacy, study skills, and other needs to promote the retention and success of TRIO SSS participants and relevant for first-generation students, students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.

Coordinate recruitment activities for prospective TRIO SSS participant to include but not limited to: outreach to current students, staffing tabling events, presenting to current students and units, develop marketing strategies, process potential participant applications, including screening, interviewing, and notifying students selected as participants.

Maintain accurate and complete student records using TTU and TRIO SSS retention software as required by law, university, state, and federal policies and regulations.

Coordinate, administer, and evaluate program activities aligned with grant outcomes resulting in participant post-secondary persistence and graduation. Utilize a student advisory board to provide feedback and ideation for continued program improvement.

Maintain a working knowledge of Federal TRIO programs/grant policies, procedures, reporting and university policies, and other areas impacting grant objectives to sustain a quality management philosophy in serving TRIO-eligible students.

Adhere to university and grant fiscal policies and procedures ensuring accuracy and compliance with policy and guidelines at the university and as requirements of the grant.

Assist with monthly, quarterly, and yearly leadership reports required by the department, university, and federal agency.

Assist with hiring, training, and supervising tutors/student assistants.

Serve on collaborative planning committees and/or task teams involving TRIO SSS-eligible students, faculty, and staff to support and promote university wide student efforts.

Master’s degree or higher in counseling, education, higher education or related fields from an accredited college or university.

Two to three years of academic advising or direct experience working with TRIO or a similar project for SSS-eligible students or similar populations (first-generation, low-income, students with disabilities, underserved student populations) assisting with academic, financial, and career planning.

Experience in project supervision and event management to include large- and small-scale, event logistics, field experiences, risk evaluation, and assessment.

Formal training and/or work experience in programming promotes the annual persistence of SSS-eligible students from one academic year to the next.

Formal training and/or work experience in programming that improves the annual academic standing rates of SSS-eligible students.

Formal training and/or work experience promoting college graduation rates of SSS-eligible students.

Experience utilizing retention software at a university level such as: Starfish, EAB, Salesforce, etc.

Demonstrated experience supervising student staff

Ability to create records, assessments, and outcomes-based reports.

Excellent written communication and public speaking/presentation skills.

Success in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the SSS participant population.
