This full-time position, based in Fairfax, Virginia offers a hybrid remote/office work schedule. The Lead Accountant will be responsible for overseeing accounting policies and procedures, maintaining a precise general ledger, and managing financial reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of balance sheet accounts and the ability to solve complex financial problems using specialized knowledge. The Lead Accountant will also provide guidance to less experienced team members, establish priorities, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and business strategies. Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.Please note: This position is contingent upon award.Roles and Responsibilities

Oversee accounting processes, including the maintenance of the general ledger and the analysis of balance sheet accounts.

Prepare, review, and manage financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies and regulations.

Use specialized knowledge and experience to solve complex and unique financial problems, ensuring effective accounting operations.

Direct the daily activities of the accounting team, establishing priorities for task completion and resource allocation.

Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members, promoting best practices in accounting procedures.

Interpret internal and external issues, using judgment to develop and implement best practices for financial management.

Ensure compliance with accounting policies, business strategy, and external regulatory requirements.

Prepare financial analysis and reports to support management decision-making and program objectives.

Review and recommend improvements to accounting systems, processes, and internal controls.

Ensure proper documentation and reconciliation of financial transactions to maintain accurate records.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

At least 7 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, or a related field, with a deep understanding of general ledger maintenance and balance sheet analysis.

Familiarity with USAID rules and regulations related to financial management and reporting.

Knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and its cost accounting standards

Proven ability to solve complex financial problems and provide strategic direction in financial management.

Preferred Qualifications

CPA or equivalent professional certification.

Experience in government contracting or international development finance.

Experience with financial reporting systems used by USAID (e.g., the NextGen Control Tower

Understanding of supply chain finance and its application in the global health context
