Careers that Change LivesThe Distinguished Engineer is responsible for and the owner of the CRM Project, Program and Portfolio Business Governance in the PMO Operational Excellence team in the Cardiac Implantables Technology Development Center (CI TDC). This role is a key leadership role within the CI TDC PMO organization at Medtronic. PMO supports four businesses within the CRM OU, including Cardiac Pacing Therapies (CPT), Cardiovascular Diagnostics and Services (CDS), Defibrillation Solutions (DS), and Patient Care Systems (PCS). R&T, Research Feasibility Studies, and Advanced Development explore solutions that cross the boundaries between these groups to optimize outcomes for patients and deliver precise and predictable therapies.The scope of the position includes maintaining, improving, and transforming our processes and systems to enable predictably robust and outcome-based portfolio performance – from vision to strategy to execution. The distinguished engineer will have a significant impact across multiple portfolios, operating segments, and developing organizations. The position contributes to the entirety of Medtronic’s mission and will enable the CI TDC to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life more quickly to more patients. Collaboration with senior and peer leaders across PMO, Finance, R&D, Marketing, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, post-market, and Clinical functions will be essential for the success of this position.Using an entrepreneurial and systems mindset, this individual will work closely with cross-functional, business, and portfolio leaders to identify potential outcome-based process gaps and unmet needs. They will explore solutions and identify critical technical and business risks that must be addressed to realize the solution. They will then create project plans, assemble, and organize project teams, define milestones, and lead teams to achieve the desired results.This individual will be responsible for analyzing and measuring the effectiveness of the existing business governance process and developing sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable business governance process improvements within the CI TDC.This is a pivotal role within the CI TDC PMO with visibility and technical influence at the highest levels of Medtronic and across the company. This individual will serve as the principal spokesperson for the CRM business governance process. We are looking for a seasoned, inspiring, strategic-minded individual with extensive medical device expertise and a track record of hands-on development experience, as well as business acumen. The job requires excellent communication skills to define and sell an opportunity, enable fruitful collaboration across a multidisciplinary team, and lead a team to define and achieve critical goals.This position is based in Mounds View, MN and requires 3 days on-site per week.A Day in the LifeStrategic Leadership:

Point of contact and owner for CRM business governance process, fosters a sense of urgency and champions change that pushes for continuous improvement.

Drive key architectural thinking and process design, resulting in efficiency improvements, sustained quality, and a robust outcome-based process.

Lead the development and maintain a detailed roadmap for strategic change initiatives, ensuring initiatives are-well planned, prioritized, and executed effectively.

Proactively identifies gaps and develops plans to mitigate any potential risk and take advantage of identified opportunities with long range impact on durable results.

Change Leadership:

Develops plans for initiatives, based on the PD Operational Excellence strategic roadmap, designed to adopt leading practices and institute improvements across CRM.

Influential leadership:

Uses influence, negotiation, and persuasion to achieve objectives and desired outcome benefiting the business.

Enable a culture of knowledge sharing, onboarding and guide development teams on the execution of best practices for CRM business governance processes.

Complex decision making requiring broad-based consideration of prioritization and trade-offs.

Actively participate in monthly PRC meetings to ensure program teams receive adequate support and to provide feedback as needed through established mechanisms.

Maintains close partnership and alignment with established Design Controls process and team.

Partnering with Business, Portfolio Leaders and the Digital Eco System Team to develop, implement, and govern program management processes, tools, templates, and metrics.

Bachelors degree required

Minimum of 15 years of relevant product development experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience

Nice to Have

Masters or PhD degree in engineering or similar field, with an MBA as a plus.

10+ years of hands-on experience in medical products & platforms from initial conception to full production & implementation. Possesses in-depth knowledge of the product development process in the medical industry.

Experience with software program and platforms program execution.

Green and/or Black Belt (Six Sigma) certified.

Relevant experience in Program Management, Effective Communication, Change Leadership, Engineering Competencies, Problem Solving, Continuous Improvement, Customer Service mindset, and Stakeholder Management.Experience in independently managing and prioritizing design approaches to multiple projects (e.g. consultancy) or complex systems (e.g. medical systems); experience with timelines, prioritization, and budgeting.

Experience with large scale strategic thinking and implementation.

Workflow agility and clear communication to meet fluid project priorities and requirements and tight timelines.

Strong background in complex selling situations, and ability to cultivate and maintain executive relationships.

Strong cross-organizational collaboration skills; ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment.

Growth mindset: Strategic (Forward) thinker one that brings ideas to the table that enhance customer performance; ability to grasp vision and objectives of program and build game plan and execute.

Ability to work in a team environment and have sound judgment.
